Wedding Traditions: Something Old, New, Borrowed, Blue and....

SomethingOldNewBorrowedBlue_BelovedBeginningsWeddingBlog

This wedding tradition has been around for years and I know a lot of brides tend to follow, well as close as they can. The objects are meant to give the bride good luck on her wedding day. There are many different ways that you can incorporate this tradition to your wedding and as I have been looking for ideas to follow this tradition for my own wedding, I am going to share with you some ideas I have had.

But first of all, let me explain what each one means...

Something old - traditionally symbolises continuity in the brides family.

Something new - means optimism for the future.

Something borrowed - usually an item from a family member or close friend with sentimental meaning that the bride keeps after the wedding day.

Something blue -  symbolises purity, love and fidelity.

Silver sixpence in her shoe - represents wealth and financial security for the bride.
Ideas for your something old could be your mothers wedding gown or part of it, a family heirloom such as a necklace or bracelet, maybe a new locket with a photo of a relative who is no longer here.

For your something new this could be your wedding dress, your shoes or if you haven't had jewellery passed down as your something old your husband to be could have a gift for you to wear on your wedding day. Something borrowed could be a hair pin from your sister, a handkerchief you can wrap around the stem of your bouquet. Something blue could be your engagement ring if your lucky to have one like Kate Middleton's stunner, or it could be a blue bow on the inside of your dress, a blue garter or even blue soles on your shoe.

Here are some ideas from Not On The High Street, an online website I am currently loving planning my wedding. Click on the word in the poem to load the website showing you the idea.
'Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue and a silver sixpence in her shoe'
For the something borrowed I cant link anything as it has to be a personal thing, as do all the others, but you cant go out and buy/find something borrowed.
Let me know what you are choosing as your old, new, borrowed and blue for your wedding day. I'm sure there are many brides out there thinking of creative ways to uphold the tradition.
